# Practices

> Schedule a practice, and time your own athletes with the same tools used at real races.

A **practice** is a timing-only session your team runs for itself. No
registration, no pricing, nothing public — but it uses the full Time2Bike timing
stack, so a Tuesday interval session is timed exactly the way a race is.

Open the **Practices** tab. You'll see it if you're a **coach**, **manager**,
team **admin**, or **owner**.

<Note>
  Your entire active roster is entered into every practice automatically. You
  never enter anyone.

## Creating a practice

<Steps>
  <Step title="Click New practice">
    > !!-IMAGE-NEEDED-!! — The **New practice** modal with two activities added.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name it and set the date and time">
    `Tuesday intervals`. Location is optional.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add activities">
    A practice holds one or more **activities**, and each activity is timed
    separately. Pick from:

    | Activity                    | What it runs                                                      |
    | --------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
    | **Time trial** | Per-rider gate starts, several riders on course at once |
    | **Endurance / lap ride** | Open-ended lap accumulation, credits each lap and tracks best lap |
    | **Dual slalom**             | Head-to-head brackets                                             |
    | **Group ride / mass start** | Everyone off at once |
    | **Short track**             | Lap-based short track                                             |

    Endurance and short track let you set a target lap count — leave it blank
    for an open-ended ride.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create it">

## Two activities at once

This is the point of activities. Each one gets **its own clock**, so a time
trial, an endurance lap ride, and a dual-slalom bracket can run at the same time
under one practice — each on a different phone, with a different coach, and
nobody has to coordinate.

The operator screen picks the right surface per activity automatically.

## Timing a practice

Every practice row has a **Time it** button that drops you straight onto the
operator screen. The practice happening today — or the next one, or the most
recent — is pulled out into a loud card at the top of the page, because on a
phone at the trailhead that should be the only thing you need to hit.

From there, everything in the [Live Timing](/timing/overview) documentation
applies: recording finishes, fixing mistakes, offline capture, and so on.

<Tip>
  Drop-ins who aren't on the roster can be added at the timer. You don't have to
  fix the roster first.
</Tip>

## Calendar and list views

* **Calendar** — the month, with practice days highlighted. Tap a day to see
  what's on it. Opens on the month that actually has something in it.
* **List** — grouped by month, newest first.

## Seasons

Create a season (`Fall 2026`) and tag practices to it. Then filter the practice
list, and the [clipboard](/teams/clipboard), to one season at a time.

Seasons are created from the **Results** tab — **New season**.

## Re-syncing the roster

The refresh icon on a practice row re-enters your current roster. Use it when
athletes joined the team after you created the practice — they won't be in it
otherwise.

## What's happening behind the scenes

Worth knowing, because it explains a few things you'll see:

* A practice is an ordinary event marked as a practice, hidden from every public
  surface. That's why it inherits the whole timing stack unchanged.
* If your team isn't attached to an organization, Time2Bike quietly provisions a
  hidden one to own your practices. You never see it, it has no Stripe account,
  and nothing under it can be paid for.
* Your coaches and managers are mirrored into that hidden org with the minimum
  permission needed to run the operator screen. Athletes aren't — they're the
  people being timed.
