Laps & primes

For criteriums, short track, and any race scored by laps.

Turning lap mode on

Timer setup → Races. Pick the race — or tick several, or All races — then tick Count laps and optionally set which lap finishes riders. Only what you change is written, so setting a lap count across five categories won’t disturb anything else they each have configured. Each race carries its own setting, so a criterium and a road race in the same event don’t have to agree.

Timing it

Same as any other race — type the bib each time that rider crosses. The screen counts their laps for you and shows each rider’s lap total and best lap. The recording point button reads Lap rather than Finish once lap mode is on, so there’s no ambiguity about what Enter does.

In a shared chute

Lap races work on the combined finish screen too. The race sheet grows a Lap column (3/5) and a Lap times column listing every lap, and a crossing recorded for a lap-race rider counts as a lap. Any timing point out on course lists every pass as well, so if a marshal at the top of the climb sees the field on all eight laps, you get eight times per rider — which is where you find the lap somebody lost two minutes. What a crossing means is read from the rider’s race, so a criterium counting laps and a road race taking finishes can share one chute and one operator without anyone flipping a control between them. Riders are finished on the lap that hits the target, and the confirmation says so.

Voiding a lap

A rider takes a lap they shouldn’t have counted — a mechanical, a crash, a penalty, a wheel change. You need to remove that one lap without removing the rider. From the rider’s row menu, choose Void a lap, pick the lap, choose a reason, and add a note if it needs explaining. What happens:

• The lap comes off their count.
• Their best lap recalculates.
• If that lap was the one that finished them, the finish is undone and they go back on course.
• A note is attached to their result so the reason is visible later.

The original lap stays in the record. You’re marking it void, not erasing it. Voiding needs admin access.

Primes

A prime is a mid-race prize for whoever leads on a given lap. From More actions → Record prime:

1. Pick the lap number.
2. Search for the winning rider by bib or name.
3. Give it a label — “Bell lap prime”, “Sponsor prime”.

Primes are recorded against the race and show up in results and exports, so whoever’s handing out envelopes at the end has a list.

Relay races also count laps, but they’re credited to a team rather than a rider. → Relay
